Christian Lundgaard – IndyCar Driver

Christian Lundgaard is one of the most exciting young talents in global motorsport. Born in Denmark in 2001, he began his racing journey at a young age and quickly rose through the European karting and single-seater ranks before making the leap to IndyCar, where he has already made history as Denmark’s first race winner.

Early Career in Karting (2012–2016)

Christian started karting in 2012 and immediately showed his natural speed and racecraft. By 2015, he had won the CIK-FIA European Karting Championship, proving himself against the best young drivers in the world. Recognized as one of Europe’s top prospects, he set his sights on single-seater racing.

Dominance in F4 (2017)

In 2017, Christian stepped into cars with MP Motorsport, competing in both the SMP F4 and Spanish F4 championships. It was a dream debut: he dominated both series, winning 16 races combined and securing two championship titles in the same year. This immediately marked him as a driver to watch.

Rising Through the Ranks (2018–2021)

  • 2018 – Competed in the Formula Renault Eurocup, finishing runner-up with four victories.

  • 2019 – Graduated to the FIA Formula 3 Championship with ART Grand Prix, taking a race win and finishing 6th overall.

  • 2020 – Advanced to FIA Formula 2, where he won two races, stood on the podium six times, and ended the season 7th in the standings.

  • 2021 – Continued in F2 while also serving as a driver in the Alpine F1 Academy, testing Formula 1 machinery. That same year, he made his IndyCar debut with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLLR), qualifying a stunning 4th at the Indianapolis road course and finishing 12th in the race.

Full-Time IndyCar Career

Rookie Season (2022)

Christian signed a multi-year deal with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing for 2022. He made his first start in the Indianapolis 500, becoming the first Danish driver ever to compete in the event. The highlight of his rookie campaign came with a 2nd-place finish at the Gallagher Grand Prix on the Indy road course. He finished the year 14th in the championship and earned Rookie of the Year honors.

Breakthrough (2023)

In 2023, Christian delivered on his promise by taking his first IndyCar victory at the Honda Indy Toronto, making history as the first Danish race winner in IndyCar. With multiple podiums and two pole positions, he finished 8th in the championship and firmly established himself as one of the series’ rising stars.

Building Momentum (2024)

He continued to show consistency in 2024, scoring another podium and finishing 11th in the standings. It was a year of steady growth that set the stage for bigger things to come.

Arrow McLaren Era (2025–Present)

For 2025, Christian made the switch to Arrow McLaren, driving the No. 7 Chevrolet. The move has elevated him into the championship fight. Highlights so far include:

  • 7th place in the Indianapolis 500, his best finish to date.

  • A pole position at Portland.

  • Six podium finishes through mid-season.

As of summer 2025, Christian is battling inside the top five of the IndyCar standings, proving himself as a genuine title contender against the very best.
